Default Control Panel Icons missing

Hi all,

I recently ran a registry cleaner and mistakenly fixed all the errors that it found instead of just the one I meant to - since then when I go into Control Panel half of the Icons are missing, including Add/Remove programs.

Is there any way to replace the missing icons?

I am running XP

TT

Hello Tealtrader!

I'm sure there are other ways to do it, but I think the easiest way to get this problem fixed is a repair install of Windows. For a quick rundown of what to do for a repair install, click on the XP repair install link at the bottom of my post.

A repair install in few cases may remove some device drivers and might change the look of windows a bit, but that can easily be fixed. It will not affect any of the data or programs you have saved in your pooter. But as always, make sure you back up your important data before making any major changes to your computer just in case.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Wadd,

Before I go ahead and try this, will it be a problem that my XP disc is just SP1 yet I have downloaded SP2 to the puter

Hey tealtrader,

Your registry repair should of had a restore point saved for you, check it out. If not, did you try a system restore back to the point before you ran this and had this problem?
