Default WNASPI32.DLL Problem (I think)

Hi Guys,

Having problems getting my PC to see my CD/DVD RW and ROMs, neither are showing up.

When I try to access them I get an error message telling me wnaspi32.dll has failed to load.

How do I get it to load, and will that let me see the two drives again?

I'm on XP with SP2. The wnaspi32.dll file on my machine is dated December 2003.

Everything was working OK till I tried to upgrade Media Player from 10 to 11, since then it's all cack.

Gone back to WMP10, but can't Burn, Rip or anything. Even Windows Explorer won't let me see the drives to see what's on a disc.

Thanks

Unfortunately this one is older than the one I have - Feb '98 v. Dec '03.

I'm still not sure if this is the problem.

I went into Device Manager and both devices are showing errors - Device Driver couldn't be loaded (Error 39).

I have been through Uninstalling them through Device Manager and then rebooted to force XP see them, but the problem persists.

Does this change the direction?

Have run as suggested. Was I supposed to see some output, because I can't find any?

As soons as it completed the Task Bar just disappeared.

Have uninstalled the devices and rebooted - the devices are still the same.

When I look at the drivers listed in the Hardware Properties there are 3 drivers that are not being loaded; asapiw2k.sys, cdrdrv.sys and PxHelp20.sys. All, coincidentally, are unsigned in terms of Digital Signatures. Is this a Red Herring?
