Exclamation [Resolved] system crashes

I recently installed a new motherboard, CPU and ram. It turns on and after about 10 mins it freezes. I have tried reinstalling windows XP and the hard drive formated ok. but when it reboots to install the drivers and such after about 10 mins it freezes.

When the system does freeze I am unable to move the mouse or use the keyboard.

here is my system specs
Foxconn P4M8907MA motherboard
P4 3.06 Ghz CPU
256MB DDR2 RAM
2x 20GB hard drive
512 MB nVidia GeForce 7100 PCI-E Graphics Video Card

I will say as well I unplugged my extra graphics card and tried it with out that as well (there is a built in graphic card on motherboard) but it still crashed after about 10 min.

any help will be great

thanx Ray

Hi inzane2005,

Welcome to PCHF.

There quite a number of things that could possibly cause your problems, however, since these only started since your new installations, it's good place to start. Your problems are likely to be related.

- First of all, make sure that you have enough power for your additional hardware: eXtreme Power Supply Calculator v2.5 (click on Go Lite).

- Make sure your not overheating. I think this is very likely, since your PC freezes after around 10 minutes after your CPU has warmed up: |MG| Free Download - EVEREST Free Edition 2.20 (The maximum temperature of a P4 is between 64 - 78°C)

Did this problem start immediately after installing Windows?

Hi Inzane...Welcome to PCHF...please don't double-post-- it actually can slow getting your problem fixed.

Thank you

inzane,

A system recovery? You used a recovery CD instead of an XP Setup cd?

OK inzane, this will be your problem.

The difference:

XP Setup CD, will install a completely fresh copy of XP.

A recovery CD is pre-imaged, with your original drivers and hardware. Using a recovery CD on different hardware is not possible. In many cases, you would be unable to boot, let alone make it into Windows. It's lucky you have made it so far. It's equivelent to taking out your HDD and expecting to boot in somebody else's PC.. it won't work! ..unless the hardware (specifically the motherboard) is identical or very very similar in model.

You need to get hold of an XP Setup CD I'm afraid inzane.
