Wink Finding Type of Hardware in Windows

Dear All,

So I was rebuildng my friends PC last night and I couldn't for the life of me find what type of motherboard it had in it. all labels, writing on the chips had faded. Absolutely no indication what so ever on the PC.

Something that has bugged me since I installed my first ever driver. Is there a way of finding information e.g. type, model number, manufacturer on hardware in windows itself (without installing a third party program unless it's free) that could give me a good indication of what drivers I need to search for.

Obivously information on the hardware once the drive has been installed is freely availble in device manager etc... but don't you just hate that yellow exclamation mark which just reads unknown device, especially when there is no other way of knowing what the hell the "unknown device" is. Any advice would be welcome

Cheers

Thanks Bandit65. I've used this before but I wonder if it can detect hardware that do not have drivers installed. only one way to find out i guess.

Regards,
