Default unmountable boot volume

I got an unmountable boot volume error today, but have finally fixed it and got back online.
Does anyone know what causes this problem and what damage may have been done due to it.

Thanks, Shaun.

Unmountable boot volume usually means your hard drive has failed or is failing. I would suspect that your hard drive is starting to go bad. My advice to you would be to back up everything you can to CDs/DVDs while you can boot into windows.

How old is your Hard Drive or your PC? If it's under warranty, you may be able to just get it replaced and not worry about spending money on a new one, unless you want a bigger size, that is.
