That depends on two things,
- Do you have any need to update the bios? anything that isn't working that is corrected in a new bios version? any instabilities?
- Do you feel comfortable flashing the BIOS as if this goes wrong you could be stuck with a tricky repair

In the past, i was told that the video convertors that i used did not coordinate with my video card driver, and it was the reason why i would recieve blue screens and fatal errors in games. If there is not a suitable solution to having extra codecs without the chance of it messing up my video card drivers, please let me know, because i would gladly sacrifice a few video files for my video card driver to work
Using VLC is perfectly safe and I've never had any problems with it, as for codec packs are hit or miss in my opinion, I had no problems with K-Lite codec pack until I started doing a little video editing in WMM and I had codec conflicts and all sorts that made WMM freeze, quit and just generally break.

If that's the theme I'm thinking of (aka Luna Royale) then you should have no problems as its an official theme and signed by MicroSoft but other themes you may have problems with as they require patching uxtheme.dll
Hope this helps
