Default [Answered] I can't open a 'cmd'

I want to open up a cmd for somthing, so i went to run typed in "cmd" and an mesage pops up "Another program is currently using this file''. I have tryed this for a few days now after restarting and everyything, i even tryed to close all open programs.

I'm pretty sure that your problem is a result of malicious software. Try opening CMD up in safe mode. If you are able to run CMD in safe mode, then I would definitely believe that it is some sort of virus/spyware.

Hi Justin.

I'm going to side with Wadd here and put my suspicion on malware to begin with.

Please follow the directions in the Prework link in my signature and attach the resulting logs as text files and somone on our security squad will take a gander at it.

One thing to check also is to see if CMD.EXE is showing up as a task in your task manager. Access it by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL or CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and click on the PROCESSES tab to see if you can find it.

Ok so did the CTRL+ALT+DEL and got the menu with a few difrent buttons and clicked the Task Maniger one and nothing the hole boxe just vanished. This may be why my computers been running so slow now for the past two weeks. Maybe i should just dump the thing and reinstall everything that will only take about 40 min.

That would be a good idea if you have nothing you want to save.

You could also boot into safe mode and do virus/malware scans.

well i dont think i have anything to importent. But i think i will burn all my music and recorded shows to DVD.

Well i did reload XP and now it works so much faster!!!! and i can open a 'cmd' That is good that i came here since i would have probaly just said screw it and forgot about what i was going to do with the CMD and still had a virus not nowing.
