Default Help formatting HD Please

I have been trying to do this since Firday and Haven't found out how to do it yet so I am asking for help. I'm trying to reformat my 80 GB HD with a legit copy of Windows XP Pro. It is SP1 if that matters. Anyway, I've configured the BIOS and I can get to the setup screen where it says press enter to install or something else to quit. Right after I hit enter though I get this screen that says:

Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed on your computer.

Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration in correct. This may involve running a manufacterer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.

Setup cannot continue. To quit setup, press F3.
Anyway, I don't have any diagnostic program and it is my internal hard drive that I have had and it has worked for years. I have spent hours searching around on the support section on Microsoft's website and it says it might be caused by a OEM driver not being installed and I would have to manually install it. Problem is I don;t know where to get that either. Can someone PLEASE help?

you can partiton it and get it going with this program below as well..

Burn it as an ISO image and whge you boot into it go under disk tools and find the manufacturer of you hard drive and click it and then click setup a hard drive for XP
Ultimate Boot CD - Download the UBCD

Might be best to see that the PC can see the hard drive first

The Bios it seems see's the hard drive. Just the os is not seeing it. Could be an SATA drive which XP xomtimes spits them out like some bad candy..

Or it can be he needs to make sure the BIOS is loading the HD first and not the dvd rom.. Most BIOS will see if a hd is connected (of course unless it is not correctly connneted..)

As this tells you the PC sees the HD just not the OS

I see what you mean so it may be possible that they need to do the F6 thing to load a driver so it will see the hard disk?

Possibly...I've had a motherboard that classed SATA as a RAID controller...even though it wasn't.

Rather stupid - but it happens.
