Default [Resolved] Event ID: 57

I am having some issues with an IDE hard disk for some reason. The disk is set up as a slave for additional storage, alongside a SATA primary drive.

Originally when the machine returned from hibernation the IDE disk was not being seen by Windows (XP Pro). On rebooting the drive reappears and operates as normal.

I have since formatted the drive and the drive is seen by Windows after coming out of hibernation but there are still errors in the System Event Log, mainly Event ID 57 Source ftdisk.

As recommended by M$ I have run chkdsk on the drive but it shows no errors and the problem presists.

Keen to know if anyone has any suggestions on this one.

UPDATE: There is also an error message in Event Viewer that says:
"The device 'Maxtor 6Y080L0' (IDE\DiskMaxtor_6Y080L0__________________________Y AR41BW0\3259433550464333202020202020202020202020) disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal."

Regards,
Tom Kear.

Two things come to mind...

1. Reseat the Drive's signal cable (both ends).

2. Delete the drive from the Device Manager and reboot.

Good Luck

Thanks for the reply. I have tried both of these things but with no joy

Welcome to the PCHF tomkear,

I've done a bit of a look around and noticed this is just a Warning message - nothing too serious really.

Have a bit of a read here.
Event ID 57, event ID 55, and event ID 50 may be logged when you use Windows Cluster on Windows Server 2003

I know the OS is different to what you're running, but it's the same File Structure...so they'll match.
