That's a difficult problem to determine. You may have faulty hardware, which is a likely possibility. It could be a bad install disk, but I don't think the disk is doing anything while it inspects your hardware.

I would suggest running some hardware diagnostics tools if you have access to them. If not, you may want to have a technician inspect your hardware.
