Hi Himashi,
If the picture is too dark when playing XviD movies it is possible to change the brightness setting. Goto the File menu in Windows Media Player and select Properties (make sure that you have a XviD movie loaded or the Properties option will be disabled). Then click the Advanced tab and select the "XviD MPEG-4 Video Decoder", then click Properties. A new window with a brightness slider will be displayed. If you move the slider to the left the picture will become darker. If you move the slider to the right the picture will become brighter. Experiment a bit to find the value that works best for you. Please note that the above instructions only work in Windows Media Player v6.4. If your system has a newer version of Windows Media Player installed you can still access the older version to make the needed changes. Simply goto the Start menu in Windows, select "Run..." and enter "mplayer2" in the box. Then click the OK button to start Windows Media Player v6.4. Hope this helps!

You're still running Media Player 6? Is it just in your Divx movies or also in other videos?
If it's in all videos, it's because the conversion from NTSC (if that's what it is) to AVI causes it to loose some brightness. Also, if your monitor is as old as MP 6 is, it is beyond it's useful life so you can expect things to just start getting darker. Only solution would be to adjust the brightness and contrast on the monitor, or just get a new one. |

Click Help > About Media Player to see what version you have. Press Alt if the help button is not there.
Oh, sorry about the old computer claim. I just seen the post below yours and wasn't paying attention to who posted it. I know what problem you have, I had the same thing, and it went away when I bought a new flatscreen monitor. Can you tell me what your video card and make and model of your monitor is? I can try to look it up for you. |
