Default Xp Pro Can't Find Hard Drive?

Hello,

I was recently asked by my friend to fully wipe his computer and reinstall xp pro.
I used Hiren's Boot Cd to erase the hard drive.
Now I put the Windows Xp Pro installation disc in and it tells me it cannot find the hard drive.
The boot cd can still see the hard drive.
Why can't Windows?
This jalopy was built by his father a couple of years ago.
I haven't formated the hard drive, I figured the install cd would be able to do that.
Does anyone have any idea?

Hi there and welcome to PCHF

I don't fully understand why you erased the hard drive with a boot CD as the Windows CD will format your HD completely anyways.
Does your BIOS read the HD?

Did you try delete the partitions in the windows XP setup. I'm not sure what the Hiren's Boot Cd duz but it sounds like it has done somthing to the partitioning of the hard drive do you know what filing system Hiren's Boot Cd uses? If the bios see's it like Darklord said it will be a partitioning problem you may need to fdisk it to get rid of the partition and start again.
