Cool Firefox & IE

Hi,
Not sure if this is the right area for my question but here goes.
I run WIN XP/PRO service pack 2 and prefer to use Mozilla Firefox as my browser as opposed to IE 6/7.

The problem I am having is if I try to open a link directly from my e-mail program (be it either outlook express or mailwasher pro) the link starts IE and opens there, I cannot get it to open with Firefox.

I have Firefox set up as my default/preffered browser and it checks automatically at each boot up, I even went into control Panel /custom/set program access defaults to disable access to IE and yet IE still starts up from links in an e-mail.

Interestingly I also noticed that in control panel it does even list Firefox, only Opera and IE. Firefox works fine if manually started and then any links I find within firefox will open in firefox.

How do I stop IE from loading from the links I get in e-mails? I've even tried right clicking the link but this does not give me an "open with "option.

Welcome to the PCHF Mychael

Outlook Express i know about...but i've never used mailwasher pro.

In OE, there used to be an option for default internet browser application. As to wether or not it's still there - i'm on Vista and they don't have OE anymore so I can't guarantee it's there. Check the settings thoroughly and you might find it.

Thanks,GaRHaR.

I looked at OE and it does not appear to give me the option for a default browser other IE. All it lets me set is the security level.
Mailwasher is an e-mail program that automatically checks and then downloads e-mails before allowing them to be sent to your main e-mail program.
It lets you see the first few lines of an e-mail without downloading the entire body. You can set filters up as you would with OE but also allows you to block ISP addresses and e-mail address. It has a spam data base which filters a lot of stuff before it even gets to me.

Hrmmm...strange, they must have changed it then.

Off the top of my head I'm not too sure..but I'd say because it's Microsoft Outlook Express, and Microsoft Internet Explorer...they're very interwined, and won't like being seperated.

Yes, most likely. I've e-mailed the support for mailwasher to see why it also does the same thing there.

Yup, that's fair enough...

We use many different mailwashers at work, but not "Mailwasher Pro"...we've go for the more company focused ones (Such as Trend)

Question Re: Firefox & IE

Email "washing" programs --

Which ones can any of you recommend? We have a spam problem at work so I'm looking for possible solutions.

Thanks,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,matt
