Exclamation [Resolved] BSOD while running iTunes

I'm new here so go easy on me . I got a BSOD when I was running iTunes and some other stuff, and I clicked on the eject button to disconnect my iPod and when I did that iTunes gave an error and the BSOD appeared. I'm pretty sure it was iTunes that caused the error, but I just want to make sure it's not something leading to a bigger problem.

Thanks in advance .

Hello DanTycoon9900,

Welcome to PCHF.

Your problem is related to your Hard Drive, iTunes was unable to write to your HDD for some reason.

Possible causes are:

1) Physical disk problem. Check your drive for errors by going to My Computer, right click on Local Disk (c), and go to Properties. Under the Tools tab, click on Check Now for "Error-checking". Click both check boxes and finally click Start. Reboot and let scandisk check your disk for errors.

2) Fragmentation. Your disk may be too fragmented. Under the same section, under the Tools tab, click Check Now for "Defragmentation".

3) Anti-Virus and Security. One possible cause is a conflict between multiple virus or security software installed on your PC. Make sure your only running one package.

4) Just as a final note as well, try to come out of iTunes before disconnecting from the iPod. This is a result of the following Microsoft article: Open Handles Cause STOP 0x0000001E or STOP 0x00000024

Ooh! I'd narrow it down to 1 and 4 because don't you use Diskeeper for defragmentation, DT? Unless that Windows OneCare is deciding not to be so friendly to you as you've thought, which would let Option 3 be a possibility.

Now I'm no expert on BSOD analysis so take my guidance (or lack thereof, reading over my post once again it seems I'm just giving MM more info about your PC) with a grain of salt. xD

(BTW, Mad, I should become an expert on BSODs so you don't get a thread from me every other week. I'm sure eventually you'll get fed up and throw some secret tutorial at me that I was either too lazy or incompetent to find myself.)

lol Rodents, you seem to have had a quiet time recently, either that or I've been ignoring you. I could use another BSOD guy around here! There is a lot of information contained within a dump file, and data can often be mis-interperated, but It's very easy to start (How to read the small memory dump files that Windows creates for debugging).

Sorry to break up your little training session but I figured I'd respond.

Rodents was right about 2 and 3 and I just did a Chkdsk on C:\ so it should be fine now. Just another question, could you find out which hard drive it couldn't write to or just that it wasn't able to write to a hard drive. I have 2 hard drives installed (as you can see from my profile) and with the iPod HDD, that would make 3. So if you could figure out which one (It's either C:\, G:\ or I:\) it'd help.

Thanks.

Does iPod use a hard drive or flash memory? Hmm. Something I've always wondered but never actually pursued in finding out. xD Must be a really small hard drive and real soft too because my iPod doesn't vibrate. Of course, I have a Nano so mine probably DOES have flash memory.

I would say it's probably trying to write to the HDD you're storing your library on, which is most likely C. However, if you keep it on G that's one too. Since it happens when you connect your iPod, my guess is on I, however. But I could be wrong if you have your iPod synced. It could be looking in the library and ending up witha read/write error, which brings us back the beginning of this paragraph.

Edit: Though, since MadMonkey didn't specify the drive, my guess is it would be C. but then again I don't know what goes on in that dark little dumpfile-examining room, and who knows what it might have said specifically. *shiftyeyes*
