Default [Answered] Setting up a TSWEB server on XP Pro at Home

I've been dealing with this problem for some time now. Here is my situation. I am behind a very strict Internet filter at my place of business. It is the policy of the company not to allow exceptions for any sites that the software determines to be unsuitable for display. Anyway. I have been able to TSWEB into an account that I had with a local volunteer FD that I was a member of and use the internet connection from the Server side. I no longer have access to that account. I am wanting to set up my own personal TSWEB server or web server with Remote Web Connection at my home. I have a PC with XP Professional (P4-2.0Ghz-1Gig RAM-350GigHD) that I plan to designate as the server. I have a broadband cable (RoadRunner) connection with dynamic Ip (I understand I'd need a dynamic update client), and an Airlink101 Ar625W wireless 300N router. I have a domain registered already but have never done anything with it. I'd like to set it up as www.mydomainname.com/tsweb like the one I was used to accessing from the fire department account. Can someone with some expertise in remote networking either guide me through this or direct me to a reputable site for the step by step. I have found that many sites either contradict each other or are partial to there own products... I'd like to try and use what I have... Thanks for any help.

Hi damon,

Welcome to PCHF.

I think you may be over complicating things by setting up your own domain for terminal services. It's just a very simple matter of setting up port forwarding on your router.

Example: How To Setup Port Forwarding

Bear in mind, this will vary between routers. The port number you need to forward for terminal services is 3389. Make sure this is port is also open on your firewall.

Download the terminal services client here: Terminal Services 32-bit Client

Personally I've never bothered with Terminal Services or RDP but have you considered using an SSH tunnel? it'd be rather simple and much more transparent.
