Default Leaving Laptop on

I know this is an age old question on desk tops, but have not seen anything much on laptops..

I used to leave my desktop on all the time and never had any prolems...I got rid of my older desktop when I eneded up with two lap tops running XP Pro/SP2...I use one as my main and carry the other on the road...I know that heat is a killer on the laptop as I lost one once before due to heat but learning from that experiemce I have this one sitting on a raised fan docking station...Can I leave it on like a desk top since it stays cool with the fan docking...?

Any advice will be appreciated...
Thanks,

Hefs

Hi hefs, at the moment I am using a laptop as my main system, Before I had my cooling pad there was no way I could leave it on, it got so hot you could have fried an egg on it...literaly. When I poped the fan panel underneath it always stayed cool, I dont leave mine on 24/7 but a few nights out of the week I will leave it on, all night for downloads and never have any problems.

I do think that a cooling pad helps the laptop out a lot. Hope this has given you a little insite from someone thinking the same as you

peace.

You could try leaving it on in hibernate mode.

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Power Options,
Click the Hibernate tab.
Check Enable hibernation.

After your laptop goes into hibernate, it will shut down your hard disk and most other things, so your heat output should be less.

I think he wants to leave it on but want to know if leaving it on is a good idea or the heat is too much.

Desktops are designed to run for long periods...
Laptops are not really.
On a cooled docking station-- it might be safe... but all those battery recalls recently would make me think of fire danger.

laptop battery fires - Google Search

Your call-- if you have checked your model for recalls-- and you leave it running, and it stays nice and cool to the touch --then fine
