Default [Resolved] Unexplained cpu usage

I have a relatively new an powerful pc, (my specs are :: CPU E6600 no ovc
2gb ram 680i 8800gtx 400gb X2 in raid 0 630 watt psu), I have a dualboot configuration with Xp rpo and vista Ultimate On the raid, the pc has been rocking in performance the last two months in both operating systems up to today.
3 hours ago as i was playing my fps dropped and i quit the game to find out that cpu was used by something else. In task manager the system idle process is allways at 98-99 but the status bars shows cpu:35 and goes up to 50 ( i have a widget for more info on cpu wich shows only the 1st core is used and the same widget also splits the usage in 2 , user 2.1% and System 40%, In the taskmanager there is no application wich goes above 1 %.
Any clues ? any ideas would be appreciated
Thanks in advance

Hi s1ozCy, Welcome to PCHelpForum.

Just to Clarify, Are the status bars constantly at 35% and spiking to 50% or do they spike at 35% and sometimes 50%. Try downloading winbar. OR Simply open the Run command line and type "perfmon.msc" then right click on one of the objects at the bottom and select properties. Under the Data tab remove anything that isn't the CPU % and monitor that for a little to see any trends. Send us an image or simply describe what's happening after running the monitor for a bit.

Hm that is a curious usage pattern. A hardware problem is possible, you could also have a bit of a malware problem, luckily that's going to be the easiest thing to check as it doesn't require opening up your box. Please follow the instructions found in the Prework link in my signature and I'll contact one of the security members about it as soon as i can.

done !! The fact that it was spikking in safe mode was just a unliky.. It only spiked twice .. but after all the prework i seee no difference in normal mode, still same roblem
It only found 16 cookies which i dont think is the problem also the fact that even if i boot into Vista i still have the same problem... the only thing i have common in both is steam which is not running now but the problem still exists
As of opening my box, there is no problem with that as i am very keen on computers i actually built computers for friends
thanks any other solutions appreciated

currently running sfc to repair any possible corruptions

I just noticed after prework winlogon uses 50 % cpu a looked it up in the web and it says there are trojans using winlogon but spyswep doesnt recognize it

Ok, could you please attach the logs that should have been generated there should be 3 of them and our security team can scan through them for us.

For future reference, please try to avoid double posting. If you're the last to post in a thread just use the edit option...no big deal though.
