not really. You can have your page file anywhere, it still won't be as fast as ram, as you are spraying ram with electronic bits, so it moves at the speed of electricity. The page file resides on your hd, so you are relegated to the speed of the hd, which is both further away from the processor AND slower than ram, so you are stuck either way.

I've always had my pf set at 1.5 min, 2.0 max, no problems. However, some people at work are throwing around 4-6 gig .pdf seismic drawings in 3d; they can suck down 3 gigs of high-grade ram in zero flat. The gent I mentioned, he's got a 6 gig page file, and is looking for some way to speed it up; there simply IS no way. Once we (as a company) adopt the 64 bit os, then yes, he will have a LOT more ram to play with, but you can allocate 200 gigs for your page file, and you are still limited by the physical speed of the hard drive.

So because my ram is 2gb (2048mb) I should set my min page file to 3072 and max to 4096?

sounds good to me....hte max can be whatever you want, but 4096 sounds great.....

I know the thread has been answered. But in regards to the the question of putting the page file on a different drive.

That can actually improve performance of the Page File if it is on a completly seperate hard drive. Not just a second partition of the drive you have windows on...also if you are running windows on an IDE drive and happen to have a SATA drive, and for some reason aren't running windows on that, you could benefit from having the page file on the faster drive. Note that yes you are still limited to the speed of the drive itself, however if your page file is on a drive that isn't being constantly accessed the read/write of your page file will be more dedicated than if you have it on a drive that is constantly being read from or written to.

On a side note, I won't argue that a 1.5 times the RAM is a good setting. However, I do recommend that whatever you set the maximum to, you may as well set the minimum to the same thing...just to avoid some fragmentation caused when the system alters the file size.
