Hi everyone, I've read some of your answers & i think you are all geniuses. unfortunately, i am not. i am actually baffled as to what to do next because a simple fix might create new problems unfortunately I believe that has occurred. let me explain.

1st) I can not read e-mail attachments that i could before as windows does not recognize the program that created it.Why? how do i go online & find it? ok if i already have it in files, how do i find it how do i know which one? once it's found what do i do with it?
2nd)ADOBE flash does not work. if i go to disney for example it tells me i do not have the latest version of flash(i do), it directs me to adobe, i download, nothing happens, i mean it doesn't even tell me that i have flash already, i hit download, 2 seconds later i'm at the top page of adobe. i go back to disney....same thing-nothing...it's been 2 months now

when we got ie7 no problems, i was happy again until march 22nd...that's when my wife said she downloaded an update from from ms (automatic update from ms prompted) well when i came home bam IE7 is gone ie 6 is on the screen, i mean no tabbed windows,no favorites, nothing
3rd) what happened to ie7? i went to system restore to one day prior to, to no avail. I then went to the saved point on the 14th to no avail except this time a message popped up saying some files(mcaffe) were not correctly installed..since that day i've noticed
4) i can not download anything,if i do the download bar comes in fills green & blip it's gone for not more than 2 seconds total
5) i can not access internet options either if i click on it it does the same thing the same way if i click it just as fast as it comes, it goes
6) i can not right click to copy & paste or print anything no window nothing but 2 days ago i have since been able to get it to do it on word...only word
7) the same goes with print, if i click a print icon on a yahoo or google page for example....nothing
8) my delete button is inop, i have to delete everything by backspacing

I've been told i have a virus and to do alot of different fixes from defragging to totally deleting everything including the harddrive & reformat the os from the beginning & lose all memory but y'know it seems more of a basic functional problem than a viral for example, everything else works, i can connect on the internet, no unauthorized activity ports have been tried to open at all . mcaffe is still scanning the way it should. my computer is not bogged down, i have 86% free space still which reminds me i have a

compaq presario
amd sempron(tm) processor
3400 +
1.79 ghz 224 mb of ram
can a genius step in & point me in the right direction step by step to resolve one issue before i get lost going to the next

when this is resolved is it easy to upgrade...starting with ram? thanks so much -v-

Hey vblivn,

Welcome to PCHF! Don't worry, everyone has to get used to the forums at first.

I can only help you with a few of the problems, as the others are over my head. For the first, what file type is the attachments?

And for the flash player, this might have something to do with your IE problems, but you could try installing the standalone player. I had a similar problem, and this solved it. Standalone player.

I'm sure someone will be along soon to help you with your other problems.

- Ryan
