Hi, its Jo, hope ive posted in the right place. I will give you an insight into my notebook that for some reason last night decided it wasnt playing. My son was on my space then the dreaded blue screen came up with corrupt file'system32\drivers\ntfs.sys. After throttling him and accusing him of catching a virus. I searched on my pc to see how it could have come about. I have read all the stuff regarding this but after putting in original cd to set up, it would not let me put in 'r' it said bad command. i then proceeded to reinstall windows which may i say is going at 2mb/min. It is still coming up in bios mode which is doing my head in, then it goes to windows start up but then i get a blank screen. I cannot write anymore due to the tears of anger in my eyes.(slight exaggeration there) My notebook is an emachines M5116 and i have had it for 3 years with no problems whatsoever!! Please help. hello josam, and welcome to the forums. If you could click on the 'prework' link on my signature and follow all the steps, you'll come out the other end with two logs, one from AVG and one from HJT. If you could ATTACH both of them in .txt format, that would be great, and I'll parse them for you.

There is a pretty high chance that this is malware related, so I want to rule that out first. If it's not, we'll start looking at other causes, but this has all the earmarks of a malware infection.

yes, we will need the logs to be run from the machine that is not running correctly. I may have misread the original post; you say you cannot boot into windows period? Have you attempted to boot into save mode? Here's some instructions on how to do that:

Getting into Windows Safe Mode

Give that a crack, and see if you can get into windows that way. Otherwise we may have some more serious issues to play with.

Hello iseemed to have done 2 differetn postings by mistake....sorry, now when i turn on my pc it comes up a whole list of things about my notebook by american megatrends when i press f8 then f1 and i click to go to safe mode it tells me that it cant as window\system32\fig\system is missing or corrupt, im now trying to reinstall my cd but halfway through the firstdisc it says it cant doit, then it goes back to the page of american megatrend again and goes back to f8 as Ive repeated, im so tired of this, i only use it normally for uni stuff, its not an everyday pc- Jo.x p.s my apologies for having 2 posts
