Exclamation Need help- ALL .exe files changed to .lnk

Ok, Basicaly every .exe file and program on my pc has changed into a .lnk file. i cannot open any of them or run them when i try to open them a message pops up and says: windows cannot open this file. then it offers the choices of select a program from a list or use the web service to find the appropriate program. the only thing my computer can do atm is go on the internet threw a link i have on my desk top. i have read other peoples threads and they have said to download a program to fix this, i have downloaded multiple programs that were suggested but for some reason my pc cannot run them. if anyone could help me i would greatly appreciate it.

thanks.

Go to the link below and scroll down to "REPAIRING ASSOCIATION FOR .LNK (SHORTCUT) FILES" and download, unzip and run the .reg file fix. Let me know how it goes

Apologies doctadrone. Allright. Try this, Download the following file

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/fileassoc/xp_exe_fix.zip

Save it to your desktop.

Hit ctrl + alt + delete

Hold control, click on file and select New Task. This should open the command Prompt.

Type REGEDIT.EXE into the command prompt, hopefully this will open the resitery editor for you.

Click on File in the registery editor and then on import. Locate the file you just downloaded and select open.

Let me know how that goes

My bad, the file still needs to be unzipped : /. Perhaps download and unzip the file on another machine, save the .reg file onto floppy, or pen drive and transfer it onto your machine, and follow the steps above.
