Default No wireless connection...help!!

I'm working on this computer that has wireless capabilities but it's not showing any wireless networks when I know there's one in excellent range. When I refresh it, it comes back saying no wireless connection available or in range, make sure the wireless switch is on. Can someone tell me what is going on?
