Default xp set up problem

hi

i recently added a new hard drive and new dvd burner to my pc. i formatted all drives set the jumper pins correctly(i think) and put in an new xp pro disc.. when loading up xp it formats a partition, loads the folders to install xp and says this part of set up is complete and needs to reeboot to continue with set up. when it does thes it just takes me back to the start of set up again.. ive tried changing it to boot from floppy for the second part of installation but nothing seams to work.. could this be a problem with the jumper pins not being set right on the drives and dvd burner or is it ssomething stupid im not doing

any advice would be helpful

could be a bad boot disk. Where did you buy it from? You may want to call them to see if you can swap it out. If it boots far enough into the app to get to the reboot into windows part, then the application itself and hardware is fine. Try taking the disk out after getting to that point, before it reboots, and then reinserting it after it asks for it and see what happens.

thanks,

v

its not a bad disc ive tried 3 of them and its all the same ive just being going round in circles tryin to install xp pro.. it think it might be a jumper pin set wrong of a bios setting.. im not sure
after the inital part of set up it says system will reboot in 15 seconds to continue setup
it reboots and starts from the start again. MY HEAD IS MELTED

anyone has any ideas please let me know

if it was a jumper pin in the wrong position, it wouldn't read from that disk. Again, if it is getting to the point where it has installed all the software and the next step is to boot into windows, with the 'time remaining' thing on the right, I would take the disk out after it copies all the files, and put it in when the os requests it. BIOS also doesn't enter into this, as you need to be able to boot from cd, and that's about the only thing that would change.

What do you mean, you've tried 3 of them? 3 different pc's, or 3 different disks?

I've asked one of the other experts to come take a look at this as well, to see if I am missing anything. I really don't think it's bios related, and have you tried what I recommended about taking the disk out after the files are copied and waitin for xp to request the disk again? Where did you get these disks? Are they copies, or are the OEM disks?
