Default Windows XP monitor help

Okay, I need serious help. I have a windows XP (sp1) computer and when I boot it up, it says "how would you like to start this computer :- safe mode; command prompt; last knownk good configuration;star wondows normally..."(or something like that) - i would usually click 'start wondows normally' and then after it finishes loading, the screen just goes black and nothing happens, (but you can tell the monitor is still on) and after a few minutes the monitor just turns itself off, and when you manually turn it back on, it just says "No signal input or cable disconnected" <-- this is rubbish.
okay, so then i re-boot it, and choose a different option, (last known good configuration), so it loads up normally, and the whole routeen goes normally(like before this whole problem cropped up), okay, so im on my desktop, and suddenly the monitor just turns itself off. But dont be fooled into thinking the montiors broken because i tried it with the computer im on now and its been on for about an hour and a half, so the monitors fine...

so i just need help, lol

Hi Gwiondavies,

I think this sound like a problem I've seen before, the XP image might have been set up incorrectly on another monitor and yours cannot handle the settings.

Try starting the pc up in "vga mode" (tap F8 on startup) and once the pc has started up (the screen resoloution will probably be terrible).
Right click on the screen and select properties.
Go to the Settings tab and drop the screen resolution to the lowest you can.
Click on the Advanced button and go to the Monitor tab, select a refresh rate of about 60Hz to start with.
Restart the pc normally, then re set the screen resolution to what you want.

Hope this works, let us know how you get on
