Default Going Insane Please Help

I had to wipe my Dell Dimenson 2400 and start over after it got clogged up with all sorts of **** after somebody (who shall remain nameless) spent all weekend on sites that screwed it up. I formated the pc and reinstalled windows xp and everything seemed fine.

1st Problem,
My screen looks like it is zoomed in too much, everything is too big and i cant seem to adjust it. I've tried looking in control panel/display and i cant move the screen resoloution slider accross to the right it stays to the left (i don't know if this would fix it anyway?) Somebody suggested downloading a monitor driver which i have done, but when I go into Control Panel/Display/Settings/Advanced and select the monitor tab, I cannot load it as the "properties" button is greyed out.

2nd Problem
I seem to have no sound and i would be gratefull for any advice here too. It all worked fine before and im tearing my hair out now, why oh why....

Please somebody help me, if you need anymore info please just ask!

Well after reinstalling windows you need to install all sorts of drivers you know. The sound problem is because you haven't installed your motherboard drivers or/and sound card drivers. The problem with the resolution is that you didn't download the right drivers for your grafics card. When you go there where you change resolution look exactly above it and post here what the model of the grafics card is. Then I can give you a link to the right drivers

Or go to control panel-> system->hardware->device manager there go under monitor adapter and tell me the model

Ok the monitor is Dell E171FPB, i've already downloaded the driver.
when i go to that page about the resoloution all i see is 'display (default monitor on)
and colour quality medium (16 bit). I cant change any of it.
If i hit advanced then adaptor, all adaptopr info (chip type, DAC Type, memory size etc all say <unavailable>
This is so hard to explain without showing you what im seeing, i hope you can find some info there that might help
Thank you very much

on the bottom/back of your dell you will see a 6-8 digit service tag number. Go to Drivers and Downloads, enter in the service tag number, and it will tell exactly what drivers you need, and provide links.

If you are faced with a multiple guess issue, click on 'everest' in my signature, download and install, and that will tell you exactly what video card, nic, etc you have and need to d/l the drivers for.

fwiw, first time I read the title, I thought you needed help going insane, and reckoned I was definitely qualified for that.

thanks,

v
