Question Help! Whle playing videos or games computer goes in Grandpa Gear

Every since about 1 month ago, generally everything that has to do with graphics, video, or fast motions on my computer has slowed. When I play YouTube videos with fast motions or play online multiplayer games such as Gunbound, my computer slows and freezes dramatically. It's not caused by a virus because it happened before and after I reinstalled Windows. I upgraded from 512 mb ram to 1 g, but no luck. Do you think it may be my graphics card? If so, why would the graphics card only start acting funny recently rather than when I first got my computer.

Hi Qelery,

welcome to PCHF.

do you know what kind of video card you have in your machine.. that would be of great help and we can usually find the correct driver for you.

when you installed windows did you install any drivers for your card at all?

if so then right click on some empty space on your desktop and click properties, then, look up at the top of the window that pops up and find the tab marked settings, if you have drivers installed you should tell you some information about the card right abouve where your screen resolution is displayed.

You can also try clicking on the advanced button and look up near the top again and find the tab marked troubleshoot. You should see a slider marked Hardware Acceleration. If it's not all the way to the right, slide it to the right and click okay.

Did you try the steps in the last half of my post. It also sounds to me like you have an onboard video card. Do you know the make and model # of your computer? We may have to find updated chipset drivers for the machine
