Unhappy Win XP became win 2000-like

Hello,
I've been gone from my computer for a few days and when i returned, the win xp went mad. It happened after i've restarted my computer (nut sure if that's what triggered it). When i press on the start button it's like the windows 2000 style ... the old windows style... when i press ctrl+alt+del to get up task manager, instead of that, i get the popup with options which application to open ..the task bar, to logout or shutdown, and other choices are there aswell. And the worse of all, i can't connect to the internet anymore.

I've checked if my xp style went to the "classic" style, but it didn't. I've checked the msconfig for any viruses in my startup, but there aren't any. So i'm clueless as to what could trigger such thing. I *think* my windows installed an update before i shut it down, that's about the only thing that changed in my windows as far as i'm aware. I've also tried to uninstall the last update, but still no luck.

That's my story, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Alright, a simple fix here. Open Control Panel, User Accounts, Change the way users log on and off. Make sure both of those boxes are checked.

But it still would not be a bad idea to run Spybot or Adaware just to make sure.

hey there msoldier,

to change the way users sign in , do the following:
(from the current interface that you have)
Click start, go to settings, choose control panel
under the control panel, click user accounts and within the user accounts applet, click on change the way users log on and off.
From that applet make sure both use welcom screen and use fast user switching are checked and click on apply all the actions
