Hello everyone,
I have two problems with my P.C. at the moment:-
1) when I switch it on it automatically runs diskcheck but freezes about the 45 to 50% point. I have to skip it every time otherwise I get nowhere. I was advised to run chkdsk in my GUI but that didn't help.
2) I tried to run a defrag today but it failed as an error occured in the file C:\windows\prefetch\logonui.exe-oaf22957.pf. Can I just delete this file?
I have searched for advice on the prefetch folder but some say delete some say don't.
What do I do?
All the best

Hi Carlosfandango,
Welcome to PCHF. It is quite safe to empty your prefetch folder (just don't delete the flder make sure you only delete the files inside it). The first reboot after emptying will take longer than usual so don't be alarmed. After you do that try running chkdisk from the recovery console using your Windows XP CD if you have one. I've found it to be a bit more reliable than running it in startup. But that's probably just me.
