Default [Fixed] new installation keeps crashing

Hi, hope you can help.

I've been having a lot of problems with BSOD and have recently re-installed XP Home edition on a clean, new HD. It was stable for a couple of days and then it crashed again - it doesn't go to the BSOD screen but just reboots. It then will continue to reboot without allowing me to even go into safe mode - it offers the option but then reboots again. I can't power off using the power button so need to cut the supply from the wall. If I leave it for a while it then boots okay. Thought it may be overheating but the fan's recently been cleaned out and the temps in the BIOS panel seem to be within tolerance of the specs on the net. Processor is AMD 2200.

Not sure where to go with this now. thanks

Hello, pro, and welcome to pchf.......please go to start > run > eventvwr.msc. That will open an explorer like window with applications, security, and system in the left pane. Click on system and see if there are any exclamation points near to when it last froze; if so, double click on the item in the right pane, click on the two pieces of paper to copy it to your clipboard, and then come back here and paste the results. Then do the same for the applications folder; look for any exclamation marks that are near in time to when your pc is freezing.

Valis, I don't think he can even get into Windows at this point...

proj48, reinstall Windows (since you said you did it already, nothing to lose eh?). Right after reinstalling it, update all your drivers.

BTW, is this a store-bought computer or did you have it built by someone?

Thanks also Computerwhiz. I've just re-installed windows so would have no problem doing it again (though I'd like to see if there is another way first). I have installed latest NVIDIA drivers but not sure how I would identify all drivers & make sure they're all up to date. I did get 70 updates from Microsoft once I registered for updates

A nack error usuall means something with linux is involved somewhere....what type of network are you running, or is this on a network? Is it a dual boot?
