Default cd appears to burn but remains blank

I am wondering why when I try to burn an audio cd, the cd appears to burn but does not. It says it transfers all the songs to the cd, the light on the drive comes on, but the disk remains blank. Both windows media player and real player are doing this.

I am trying to burn around 20 songs to a sony cd-rw 4x speed, 2 of which are protected wma files. Does this have anything to do whith it not burning?

This happened once to me with nero, but that was solved by unchecking the "simulate" option. Is there something like that in wmp or rp?

Thanks in advance!

PS. I am running Windows XP SP2 - windows media player 9 - real player 10. My drive is a Lite On DVD R/RW.

hi 4x4 subarus, welcome to the PCHF.

You are exactly correct. WMP and RP both have strict rules where they won't let you burn protected files.

Unfortunately there's no way around that other then purchases some real burning software and attempting to do that.

I am not sure that is the case though because I tried to burn some unprotected wma and mp3 files to cd with the same results - it goes through every song, analyzes it, prepares it, burns it, then finalizes the disc. The light on my drive flashes, I can hear the disc spinning, but when it ejects it is blank.

I "upgraded" to wmp 11 - same results.

I don't get it! Should I try different brand cds? They used to work on windows 98SE but since getting XP I have not been able to burn audio cd's.
