Unhappy [Resolved] Not computer literate

I just got a computer and I know a little about them. I received info about that I just got a virus. Norton Anti virus didn't detect it. I started deleting programs, that I added. I restarted my computer, because that is what they said do to uninstall a program. When I did that I could not get back in. I get to the password screen and they said my domain Compaq is not there. I don't know what to do, I have files I cannot get to. Please help! I have Windows 2000 professional I think SP2 or 3. I tried F8 and boot in safe mode, last known good configuration.
Thanks

are you normally part of a domain? Is this a business machine or a home pc? Usually on home rigs you don't have to worry that much about domains, as they are standalone, unless you've set up a domain at your house.

What happens when you try to boot into safe mode?

I would say try running system restore and then anti-virus again.
