Help which will earn me browny points with my father in law

I am sorry if this is in the wrong location but it is a general question.

My father in law is carrying out some computer course and has been asked this question

What is the most probably cause of an error, that appears to occur randomly and not be easily replicated?
a) Software conflict
b) Defective hardware
or
c) Problems with the driver

Any ideas?

Hi there and welcome to PCHF I'd say Defective hardware but the discriptions not so good

Oh, my, it looks like you're in a pickle. Each answer's been suggested! Hmm, driver problems would be a frequent error and obviously replicable... As would be software because the error would likely occur each time something is done a certain way in the software.

I would say from personal experience that hardware problems can cause random and vicious errors, though some are quite easily replicated if the defective hardware is kept, I'd say B is your best bet.
