Default [Help] Question: Windows Password, How To.

Just wondering. How can i make a password for my home pc where im currently using the admin account. how can i put a password that prevents others from making a password that will allow me from logining on to the computer? because lately i've been having sibling rivalries and the main threat has been " im going to put a password on the computer so that only I can use it" (brothers...pfff >.< ) so i want to be ready when this attack happens :P so is there a way to make a password on my home computer that makes it so that if anyone wants to change/make a password to block other users.....is there a way that this changing/making can be prevented? like a master password..but this password should never be asked for when logining in...because i dont want to show that a password is activated but when my brother tries to create a password a pop-up(or something) should come up and ask him to type in a "Master Password"...?? which only i know because i put it there....ok im dragging on here....please just ask if my point is not clear... :P

Hi there,

let me get this clear -

You want to make a password for your account on your PC, will anyone else require an account on the PC or only you?

Chris

Go to Start/ Run and type control userpasswords2

Go into shot 1 and click the reset Admin Password.
In shot 2 put your old password and and then confirm it.
In shot 3 tick the Secure logon on box.

Set your brothers account as User and nothing more.

Yes, but ..we both use the same account...like in shot 1 in mine it shows 3 users and they all have admin powers,But when the comp starts up all we do is press OK and it start-up normally. i need a a way to make a password that is asked by others who try to make a password that will lock the computer.

Ex: My bro is made at me, he puts ona password so that when i start-up comp it asks for a password which i dont know, how do i stop him from ever having made this problem possible.... Master Password.

You could set a BIOS password. When your BIOS screen appears when booting up, enter setup mode however your screen directs you, then navigate (probably under some kind of a security menu) until you find the screen to set a BIOS password. It will ask for a password before it even boots into Windows.

thats....exactly the opposite of what i need :P

Master Password Requirements:
- Must not ever be asked for, unless user is trying to create a "Lock-down-Computer" password.

... lol thats the only requirement.. :P

As far as BIOS passwords go, your BIOS might have a couple of password options. One for startup (meaning thata password is required every time the computer boots) and hopefully in your case there will also be a setup password, meaning that the password is only required if someone tries to access the CMOS/BIOS.

If you are talking about setting up Windows account passwords, you may want to log in to your administrator account, open control panel and select User Accounts. Under the Select a task section, choose "change an account" and choose the account you would like to restrict. Select change account type and change the account to "limited account".

Then change the password on your administrator account, if necessary and hopefully you should be fine.
