Default The ghost of vista beta

Catchy title eh? Anyways.....I installed Windows Vista beta 2 about 6 months (or something like that) ago but I got bored of the fact movie maker wouldn't work so I went straight and reformatted Local Disk C (my main hard drive) then installed WIN XP back onto it. Then, when I tired to start XP after it was installed I got the vista beta screen asking me whether I wanted to start it or an older version of windows (neither option did anything, my pc just went blank when selecting either one). The only way I found around this was to have my XP disk in during startup, it then, for some unknown reason to me, worked fine but since then I have had to either put my disk in each startup or just leave it in there all the time. I have another hard drive on my PC (D) which I noticed the other day has a boot and a windows folder on it, im not sure if these have anything to do with the XP on C or if they are something Vista put on it. Any ideas? Now i'm getting a headache....

Boot into the XP recovery console and run fixmbr and if necessary fixboot, theyshould fix the issue. You could also look for a (normally hidden) folder named "Boot" in the root of the boot volume, it should contain a file named "fixntfs.exe" that also fixes this problem

When I type fixmbr I get a warning saying that I have an odd windows or something and that the drive may become inaccessable, should I go ahead with it? Also, I noticed that it thinks there is a windows installation on my other hard drive (D), can I remove this without deleting the entire drive?

When in recovery console type this:

cd C:\BOOT
remember the space beween "cd" and "C:\BOOT"

Press enter.

Then type: "fixntfs" or "fixntfs.exe" (without the quotes)

Press enter.

Tell us what happens.

After typing cd C:\boot it said that the directory could not be found. The only place I actually have a boot folder on either of my drives (according to search) is on my D drive, even though windows is on C.
