Default [Resolved] Outlook Express issue

Hi,

Hopefully you can help me?

Whenever I am on a website and a link is given to connect to their email address, my outlook express will not open and I receive a message of 'Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file.' It is also the case when I try to open outlook express through the email icon on the Internet Explorer 7 toolbar.

My email works fine if I access it, via the desktop icon although through Internet Explorer there is no response. How would I go about making the connection between Internet Explorer and either of my email services?

Kind Regards,

Hi PaulioRogio, welcome to the PCHF

Can you please goto Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs
In here there will be an option to set your default mail program to Outlook. Unfortunately i have Vista so I can't tell you exactly where to go.

You might also want to right click on the taskbar (just on a blank space) and select Properties -> Start Menu -> Customize -> And make sure E-mail link: is set to Outlook Express

Thank you for the warm welcome, GaRHaR.

I had already tried the first part of your suggestion and with that I tried the 2nd suggestion and both are set-up correctly. I also tried switching the option from outlook to windows live, to see if that would rectify the problem and the problem still persists.

Do you have any other ideas?

Thanks,

I have managed to solve the problem.

I changed a setting in the firewall which has allowed connection between Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.

Regards,

THanks for the update Paulio.

Thats an interesting solution - wouldn't have thought it to have anything to do with the firewall. Good work

Marked as Resolved.
