Default Dvd Playback & Display Problems, Please Help me!!!!!!!

Hi all!

Two Problems:

1) When I try to play back DVDs it plays jerkily and the sound is snappy. Not so long ago it was playing them perfectly? Please try to identify any obvious problems as I think its only something simple (running a GeForce 6200SE with TurboCache) Also i'm sure that ripping CDs has got slower, could this be my CD drive altogether? or just a setting for the drive? I've tried Power DVD and many others, all to no avail.

2) Ever since I updated my Graphics drivers, the tabs at the top of the screen (File, Edit, View etc) have got a strange white background to them, different to the color of the rest of the window. Any idea to what could be causing this?

Please try to help me, even if you think its a stab in the dark!!

Many Thanks, Rob.

Hey Rob,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a wonderful team of techs here, and I feel certain that we will be able to help you figure this out.

First of all, when you updated your graphics drivers, did you also update your codecs? Are you sure that you have the most up to date drivers for the DVD/CD player?

Make sure that you have everything thing updated, and we can go from there.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hello, thanks for your warm welcome and quick reply.

How would I go about getting the latest codecs?

The latest drivers for the DVD drive are here

DVD-RW 16X HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GCA-4164B Drive Firmware Update Compaq Presario SR1639UK Desktop PC

But it doesn't work!!

Any Ideas on how to update the codecs or get those drivers?

Many Thanks, Rob.

Hey Rob,

No problem, that's what we're here for. LOL

I have to step away for a couple of hours, I will track those down for you when I return. You are on the top of my list.

Hey Rob,

I'm baaaacck!

OK, that download is not the updated drivers, it is updated firmware, a bit diffrerent, and this one sounds very important. When you say it "didn't work," what happened exactly.

Looking forward to your reply,

HI, Thanks very much for your help, but I found a website with solutions to this problem. Turns out that one of the Secondary IDE Controllers was Defaulting to PIO mode, even when DMA was enabled, the website had a program to run which changed it to DMA so now it works perfectly.

But the problem with the File,Edit,View tabs at the top of the page remains, not that its essential, but it would be nice if there was anything I could do.

Kind Regards,
Rob.

Hey Rob,

Glad to hear that you found part of the answer. I would run the firmware again, it may be the cause of the missing toolbars.

Looking forward to your reply,
