Hi gmann,

You can setup remote desktop either way or both, completely up to you. If the host you want to connect to is using a router, you need to first set up port forwarding on that router. This web site should explain everything, including logging of connections: Remote Desktop Tips for the SOHO User

Any questions, please let me know.

Will take up some bandwidth, and obviously any application you use will require cpu and memory, so they may experience a little slowdown. It completely depends on what your doing and what applications you use. They won't know any difference unless you decide to reboot the PC or something like that.
