My mate this dell laptop i dont know where he has got it from. When he starts it up it is asking him for user name & password which he does no what it is. Is it best for him re-format his drive?

Any other suggestions?

If it's his laptop and he doesn't know the username or password..

Format will work.

is it a power on password or are you talking about windows logon password?

windows logon password. He doesnt know what it is. I will get him to format his hard drive

in that case format it is the best option. It can be done but they don't like these methods here.
