Default help...errors downloading adobe reader

I am having problems trying to download adobe reader 8 on windows xp and it doesn't want to work. I'm sure it is something simple but I am completely lost.

I keep getting an error and I'm not sure what this machine needs and how to do it. The error messages are:

first
---------------------------
C:\DOCUME~1\HP_ADM~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\sgc10_gtb401019 _rdr80_dlm_en_us.aom
---------------------------
This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

second

--------------------------
Error
---------------------------
Last error: 1155
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

then

---------------------------
ERROR
---------------------------
Unable to launch AOM File.
CreateProcess return code: 10348096
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

so can anybody help me figure out how to get adobe to work on here????

Thanks,
Dreams

Hi there,

Have you tried re-downloading it? Also, are you downloading it from the official Adobe website?

Yep I am trying at the Adobe site.

I could get the Adobe reader 6 to work but anything newer and I get the error messages.

I have tried several times either saving the download file or running it from the site and it keeps doing the same thing.

There isn't that massive a difference between the versions, unless you use it 24/7 you should be fine with version 6. Try alternate download links maybe then

I will stay with reader 6 until I can figure out how to upgrade to 8. I had windows ME long enough to know that eventually the earlier versions won't work anymore and I will have to figure it out. Thanks for trying anyways.

I did go back in the threads and found another person with the same problem but they never came back to say what they figured out,I used the link suggested in that thread by joe5 and got the error messagesI posted. I found this on thread page 121. I stopped at page 60 but will keep looking later.

If anyone has any ideas I would appriciate them. I hate not knowing...LOL....

Thanks,
