Question pc freezing

Hey
Does having very little memory already installed on my computer cause it to freeze. I cant move the mouse when it freezes or bring up task manager to see what is causing it, It will also freeze sometimes if its idle for a long period of time. All I can do is reset. I have a 256 mb card installed but its only using 224 mb. I am still gonna install more RAM. I just have to find the time to do it. But after it freezes, I restart without properly shutting down (can't be helped). When it restarts, the screen that says restore my active desktop comes up everytime. I dont even have active desktop on. When I click it, a box comes up saying internet explorer script error. I click yes or no and nothing happens either time. So I just goto desktop properties and re-enable my wallpaper. Can you help me figure out what causes it to keep freezing?
Thanks
Fay

With the active desktop problem you might want to try this Pre-Work also might want to test your memory for faults I think the one most used in this forum is memtest.
