Default Clean my **** registry/speed up my PC

A quick search on Google has led me to believe that my PC running slow could be because my registry needs cleaning. So I've tried lots of free downloads all of which have found several hundred "errors" but of course will only clear a couple of them for free. My point/question is this: Having just paid over £20 for Registry Mechanic and run it accordingly, why are some of these free downloads still claiming to find loads of "errors" on the registry? Are these products all just a big con or what? I really don't understand this registry business but if it helps, my Norton Anti Virus/spyware/firewall is up to date and I always run Webroot Window Washer on shutting down.
Am I doing all I can?

Hey there,

yeah most of these are a con to try to make you buy them, thinking there going to remove allot of rubbish from your pc, when in fact they've made it all up,

a very trustworthy application you could try which is free and will actually get rid of them is
CCleaner from

Download CCleaner 1.37.456 - filehippo.com

Untick install Yahoo Toolbar if you don't want it.

Once you've downloaded/installed it make sure the CCleaner window is open then click the Issues tab, make sure that all the box's are ticked then click Scan for Issues, if it comes up with any click Fix selected issues, this should help with the registry problem .

To speed up your pc, read this excellent tutorial http://www.pchelpforum.com/tutorials...imization.html

looking forward to your reply .

Bugsey.

atf gets my vote, simply because it leaves the registry alone, and if the registry is to be mucked with, I prefer to do it manually. However, I know a LOT of people who absolutely swear by CC, so it's 6-5 pick 'em.

As you stated you are looking for something registry wise, I'd probably stick with what Bugsey said.
