Default Standby issue

Hi
I have Windows XP Home installed. 2 gig of Ram
My problem is when I put the computer in to standby mode (start--standby) it does "switch off' and go into something---who knows what as I am unable to "wake " the computer from standby mode. The only way to "reawaken" is to press the Power button
on the computer.
The message I get is "computer is shutting down". I then have to reboot the computer.
I read gaRhaR answwer to someone's question quite a while ago and he said to leave the computer on all the time---just switch off the monitor.
Any advise would be appreciated on either resolving my standby issue or leave the computer on all the time?
Thanks in advance

Hi snoopy,

I believe I said that's what I do
XP doesn't have a very nice standby function unfortunately

I've never really used it after the first play arounds I had..i found it was quicker to boot up windows then it was to standby...

Perhaps one of the other techs can offer another suggestion?

Hi GaRHaR
I have to agree with you. Its a pain in the **** having to restart each time.
Well, hopefully Vista will have sorted out this problem
Thanks again
Regards
.
