Question [Fixed] Unable to hibernate

I've read through many hibernate threads but can't find the exact same problem that I have.

I used to find that my computer came out of standby all by itself in the middle of most nights, wasting power etc.

So a few months ago I changed the "Sleep" button, via control panel > Power options, to initiate Hibernate mode. All was well and I preferred hibernation to standby.

A week ago I increased my RAM from 512Mb to 2.5Gb: now I find that pressing the Sleep button makes the machine enter Standby and not Hibernate! And when I wake it up again, there is a little yellow triangle on the systray with the message "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API" - whatevr *that* means!

I've reset to Hibernate several times, but it still won't do anything but go to Standby.

Any ideas?

HP Pavilion, 3.2GHz P4, 160Gb HD, (Now) 2.5 Gb RAM, XP Home.

Hello Datastream.
Sorry someone hasnt answered your question yet, the techs have been pretty busy tonight. Ill bring it back to the top so they can have a look at it. One question they will probably ask, does your system recognize the new ram you just installed? And was this the exact error message you got?
"Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API"
If not can you copy and paste it here?

Yes, that's the exact message, displayed in a rectangular "balloon" coming from this little yellow triangle in the systray.

The system *did* recognise all the RAM as soon as I installed it, and continues to do so.

Hi datastream,

See if this Microsoft Knowledgebase article helps you out at all...

The computer occasionally does not hibernate and you receive an "Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API" error message in Windows XP with Service Pack 2, in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, or in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
