Default [Answered] pc wont start help!

ok my pc wont start up, starting the other night when i tunred it off. (by holding power button) i tried turning it back on and it went to a selection screen where u need to select, start windows normally, safe mode, safe mode with command prompt and safe mode with networking, ive tried selecting everyone, and it will show windows, loading thing for a couple seconds then restart the whole thing over. sometiems a blue screen appears but for a split second. not enough time to even see whats on it. please help, restoring windows is a final and very very unwanted solution, i have alot of important data on it. thanks!

P.S if this isnt in the right forum let me know, these ones are a little tricky to navigate.

you have an unmountable_boot_volume, most likely. Do you have your iinstall disk? If so, boot from it, get to the recovery console (type R when prompted) and, if you've entered an admin password, enter it, if not, leave it blank at the DOS prompt. Then type in chkdsk /r, wait a while until it's done, then you should be able to boot into windows. Once in windows, I highly recommend defragging your drive, as I've seen this caused by heavy fragmentation.

let me know how you get on.

A fellow Cyberpower user. Yes, the cyberpower recovery CD is the same thing as a Windows XP cd. However, I question whether mine it is the "genuine" kind. It activates and my key works, so I guess it is.

when it boots from teh cd, you should get (after all the drivers load) and option to enter the repair console, I believe you need to press 'r'. But you need to read the instructions on the screen and follow those instructions preciesly. I have NO experience with Cyberpower, but what you need to do is get to the recovery console; once there, you should be faced with either a command prompt (c:\) or a request for an admin password. If the latter, enter it, and then you will get to the command prompt. If the former, just enter 'chkdsk /r' without the quotation marks.
