Exclamation [Resolved] Remote desktop port not being listened on

I have so far managed to do the correct port forwarding for remote desktop and my computer has it enabled but i have done some tests using the netstat command and they all show that remote desktops port 3389 is not being listened to (it's not on the list at all).

my machine specs are:
intel pentium 4 2.00 ghz
512mb ram
64mb nvidia graphics
XP service pack 2
Mcafee 2007 enterprise edition
windows defender

I have now succesfully got the computer listening on port 3389 i had to start terminal services. However on testing the remote desktop connection from a freinds pc it says i cannot connect, i am really stumped because i have used an internet based TCP port tester that tells me the port is open and my pc is listening to it. I was wondering if this could possibly be down to windows defender or mcafee virus scan i dont know how to configure them to let remote desktop work and windows firewall is already configured to do so.

many thanks for your help
Wilf

Hello ws,

Try disabling your firewall altogether, temporarily to be absolutely sure.

Also, have a look at the event logs on the server to see if there are any errors there such as not being able to assign a client access license or something silly like that!

I will disable the firewall but is there any way of testing for a good connection other than ringing up my freind and getting him to do it, i have done it so often now he might start etting annoyed. Also i am on a home network that is the internet>BT voyager 205 (port forwarding this router)>Asus wl530g(i have made this a switch)>My XP pc (wirelessly)
>Apple mac (wired)
so how should i go about looking at the event logs?

Thank you for your help so far!

You will need to go through the event logs on the PC you are connecting you, you won't be able to do this remotely at this point. To access the event logs, go to Start, Run and type eventvwr.

From the remote PC, make sure you can see the router you are connecting to by using the ping command. Go to Start, Run, and type cmd. Then use the command ping x.x.x.x and see if you get a reply.

Also, what method are you using to obtain the address of the remote PC?
