I currently have Windows XP (Home) SP2 on my laptop and I want to format and reinstall XP. It originally came with SP1a though so do I need to reinstall using the SP1a disc or with the SP2 disc? Which one is my current license compatible with?

you should be able to reinstall with the sp1 disk and then reinstall/update sp2

Ok so my license didn't get upgraded to SP2? I just wanted to make sure before I got through the install and have my license key not work.

I would go for the original disk, the SP2 is just likely an update disc.
