Windows XP/2000 - Win XP gets stuck when loading up. posted in the Operating Systems forums; Ok
Go to the section Safe mode with Command prompt and type fixmbr...
That's quite a coinsidence I' had already inserted my WinXP CD and went to "Repair" I then wrote in the console "chkdsk /r" and it began doing some sort of repairing, it's on 60% as we speak. After that I was gonna tryout "fixboot" and "fixmbr". Will that work the same way?
Your heading in the right direction newb.
chkdsk will only fix errors on the hdd but fixmbr will repair your master boot file/record and without a mbr you ain't going anywhere.
Let us know how it goes.
Since i'ts the first time I'm trying this, I would know a little mer detailed what I'm doing. I opened Safe mode with the command prompt and I'am now in a file called cmd.exe in
C:\Documents and Settings\(name) i tried writing fixmbr but I't didn't find anything. Anything i'm doing wrong?
