certainly. You want to wipe the disk completely, and reinstall your OS, correct?
two questions:
What is the operating system?
Do you have the OEM (original equipment manufactuer) install disk to put the OS BACK on the system?
I'll wait for your answer, but I have to check out in 45 min for the rest of the night......if you have windows 2k or xp, AND you have the install disk, just boot from the cd and follow the prompts to install the operating system anew. If it doesn't read the cd when you reboot, you will need to go into bios to tell it to look to the cd drive before the hd; to do that, you need to watch teh screen closely during the boot up process; at one point, there will be a 'press xx to enter setup' or something similar, depending on your bios. It's usually F2 or DEL, but just keep an eye out for it. Once you are in bios, you will need to find the 'boot sequence' area, hit enter on that, and follow the instructions necessary to get the cd rom drive to be the first in line. Then, when you reboot, you will see a 'press any key to boot from the cd', hit the any key (just kidding), and you are off.
A few things to remember. You will lose ALL data on your hd if you do a full reformat. This includes installed applications such as MS Office, adobe, anything that does not come bundled with the os. You will also lose your drivers, most likely, so be prepared for that. I generally d/l the drivers pre-format to a thumb drive and install them from there after I format the drive, but I do this a dozen times a day, so I'm a bit used to it.
It is possible to format the drive and keep the existing file system in XP; dunno about 2k. This is a way to create a new profile and completely reinstall the OS but not lose your data. Something else to consider.
Whew. Sorry for the long post. Just got going there.
