Hey Mal,
OK, his idea was even better than mine. You are going to create a virtual Operating System on your PC which will allow you to run the Stinger application, which removes the W32.Sasser.worm, the most likely cause of your problems. You will also be able to run the fix given to you by Scouse in this environment, and then you should be able to boot back into Windows, and have no more errors.
First you will need to get the ISO copy of
The Ultimate Boot CD Full Copy (scroll down the page), and burn that into a bootable CD. ISOs need to be burned a special way, using a burning program that can create bootable CDs.
Nero works extremely well, you can get a free trial and use it to create the CD. You will also need to burn
Stinger to a CD, and have the Lsass.exe file burned there as well so that you can copy it over.
Once you have created the bootable CD, put in into the problem PC and boot up. Choose the Linux envirionment. From there run Stinger, and the previous instructions. Remove the CD, and reboot the PC.
We will be looking forward to your reply, and keeping our fingers crossed
