Default [Resolved] Computer messing up terribly after windows update

I just updated windows on my friend's computer here and after I restarted it's now in this Window 95 looking mode with the really small resolution and 256 colors. I tried to go to Display Properties>Settings to change the colors and such but as I soon as I clicked it I got a BSOD.

First of all, I would push F8 at startup and go into safe mode to change the settings. I don't know about your computer, but mine lets me use the internet when I am in safe mode. When you go into safe mode, I would try running another Windows Update and also go to DriverAgent and check to see if you have bad drivers. Scan your computer for free, and I'll see if I can get you the drivers you need (I have an account there). Just give me the name of your hardware that has bad drivers and any other info you have about it (like if it's a printer, tell me the brand and ID number [Ex. Dell AIO Photo 924 Printer]).

That's as far as I can help, a mod will help you with your .DMP file.

Hi Echostrider,
Welcome to The PCHF,

I think that you might have a driver issue that may have been caused by the update, one of the quickest and easiest ways to get back to how it was is to use system restore. Press "F1" and from the help and support centre choose the "udo changes..." and select "restore my computer to an earlier time" then choose a date that is a just before you installed the updates, the pc will restart and things should be back o normal. I would suggest running the updates again but do them 1 at a time (painful but you need to see which is causing the problem).
Let us know how you get on

Where is the help and support centre? Hit F1 from IE?
